We all hate checking-in luggage, right? It’s such a chore and there’s always that risk of your luggage never arriving. That’s why I always make sure when I travel, it’s carry-on and carry-on only. Of course, if you’re traveling for a long period of time, then it makes sense to check your luggage (because four weeks of clothes and accessories will not fit in a duffel bag)!
It took me a long time to shift through and read reviews on duffel bags within my relatively low budget. I mean, let’s be honest here, I’m not willing to spend $60 on a bag, nor do I want to spend $12 on a very cheap bag and have it rip on me while traveling!
That’s when I found Shacke’s Travel Duffel Bag. For just $30, you get quality, size, and the luxury of traveling with a classic-looking carry-on bag.
It has its own shoe compartment and three other pockets for your travel accessories. So that means you can put your toiletry bag in a separate compartment! I put my disposable contact lenses in the side pocket, along with my allergy medication.
Did I mention the shoe compartment is large enough to fit TWO shoes?!
I used this bag when I went to Hawaii for a week — including a North Face Recon backpack I’ve had since college. (Those things are indestructible!) I also used it to go down to Columbia, SC for a weekend, and to LA for a week as well. Shacke’s did a wonderful job with durability and aesthetics, in my opinion! I briefly debated on getting the bright blue one, but I opted for the classic grey. In fact, people have actually commented positively on the bag, asking me who made it and where I got it from!
The beautiful thing about this bag is that it was able to fit two shoes and a weeks worth of clothes to Hawaii with room to spare. Yes, I was going to a tropical climate, but still, that’s pretty impressive.
The bag also feels solid — the sling is relatively solid and it was able to withstand all of my clothes and shoes as I sprinted through DFW trying to catch my connecting flight. (If you’re at DFW, make sure you try out Salt Lick BBQ. I know going to Austin is much better, but I think about their sausages all the time. The best I’ve ever had.)
The one thing I didn’t like about the bag was how the sling would dig into my shoulder, resulting in my constantly shifting the bag or switching shoulders. It also tends to go heavy on one side thanks to the shoes, but if you’re smart, you would evenly distribute the weight, taking the shoes into account so that you have an easier time traveling.
But all-in-all, I am very happy with this bag! I would purchase it for my friends and family, with no hesitation.
And before I forget, you can also use it as a gym bag! Just make sure you air it out before you start packing again.
